St. Xavier's College of Education
St. Xavier's College of Education (SXCE), Palayamkottai was started in 1950 as St. Xavier's Teachers' Training College at St. Xavier's College Campus, affiliated to the University of Madras with an intake of 30 students in the B.Ed. programme. Now the college is affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University, Chennai and offers B.Ed., M.Ed., M.Phil., and PhD programmes in Education. We have a well-equipped research centre and produced 128 PhDs in Education so far. The college was assessed and accredited with Five Stars by the NAAC in 1999-2000. In 2006, the UGC conferred the autonomy status to the college and will continue to enjoy that privilege till 2028. The college was re-accredited by NAAC with ‘A+’ Grade in its 4th cycle.
Fr. Utarid Library
We have got a spacious library with a seating capacity for about 250 readers, and a well-equipped with reading hall, reference section, journal section and informatics centre in the ground floor: and with the stack room facility for all the subject books in teaching pedagogy and general reading books in the first floor. It houses a collection of 23,262 books, 1,563 book bank books, 15 years question bank, 4 International and 36 National journals, 928 back volumes of journals, 18 magazines and 3 daily newspapers, 898 M.Ed. dissertations, 92 national policy documents, and 276 CD’s. It is fully computerized, and the students can search the books even when they are outside the library through KOHA Web-OPAC. There is a separate digital library section with DSPACE Digital Library Software. It has 4 Kindle e-readers, 1, 64,309 e-books and 6,150 online journals subscribed through UGC N-List consortium. It is used well by the students, scholars and professors for their teaching-learning and research purposes under the guidance of the Library Director, the Librarian and the Library Assistant.
